School Supply Drive 2011

It was another record setting year for the annual school supply at the Fannin County Children’s Center. A grand total of 726 students from all over Fannin County received free school supplies from this effort.

This year marked the fifteenth year in a row that the Children’s Center has provided free school supplies to needy families. Many local individuals, families, churches, businesses and other organizations contributed pencils, crayons, markers, paper, notebooks, cash and other items to the project.

“Once again, we set a new record for the number of children served in one year,” said Sandy Barber of the Children’s Center. “Fortunately, our community answered the call for help and the donations were able to keep up with the need.”

The previous record year was from last year when 669 students received supplies. The students came from every district in Fannin County. Families had to show proof of financial need such as a Medicaid card, CHIPS or Food Stamps.

“In fifteen years, we have given supplies to a combined total of more than 6,200 kids,” said Barber. “We are so grateful for our donors and volunteers who make this effort possible. Working together, we have helped so many kids get off to a good start this school year.”
