Fannin County Sheriff's Office Investigator Brett Martin, Fannin County Attorney's Office Prosecutor Brad Setterberg & Child Protective Services Investigator Dana Magness
Professionals Honored for Fighting Crimes Against Children
Brett Martin of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office took home the top honor at the Fannin County Children’s Advocacy Center’s (CAC) annual team spirit banquet. Martin was selected as the CAC Outstanding Team Member by the multi-disciplinary team of professionals who work on cases involving crimes against children in Fannin County.
Honorable mention recognition was given to prosecutor Brad Setterberg of the Fannin County Attorney’s Office and investigator Dana Magness of Child Protective Services.
“These awards mean a lot because they come from your peers,” said Sandy Barber, CAC Executive Director as she explained that the selection for these awards was done through a voting process involving all of the partner agencies of the Children’s Advocacy Center.
Martin has been investigating crimes against children at the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office for a little more than one year. The first case he investigated after joining the Children’s Advocacy Center team went to trial just last week. In that case, James Moss was the lead prosecutor and the abuser got the maximum sentence on all charges. The judge stacked the sentences, which means he will have to serve at least one hundred years before he is eligible for parole.
Fannin County Children’s Center Board Vice-President Melanie Grammar welcomed everyone to the banquet. She expressed the appreciation of the board and community for the important work done everyday by the investigators, prosecutors, caseworkers, counselors, advocates, probation officers and other professionals in attendance. She also thanked the Glaser Family Charitable Foundation for sponsoring the evening.
In the most recent fiscal year, the Children’s Advocacy Center received 117 new referrals and provided 105 forensic interviews. Contract therapists provided more than four hundred counseling sessions.
The Children’s Advocacy Center is a program of the Fannin County Children’s Center. The CAC’s mission is to provide a neutral, child-friendly agency that facilitates a multidisciplinary approach in the prevention, detection, investigation and treatment of child abuse. The team includes Child Protective Services, law enforcement, prosecution, medical personnel, counselors and other professionals.
