If you have been by the center lately, you probably couldn’t help but notice our bright new yellow and black Project Safe Place sign on the front of our building. We are one of several businesses in Bonham who are partnering with the North Texas Youth Connection (NTYC) to bring Project Safe Place to Bonham. If children or youth find themselves running away from home, being followed by someone, wanting to avoid riding with a drunk driver or some other crisis situation, they can go into any place they see a Safe Place sign and ask for help. If a child were to come to our center needing Safe Place help, we will call NTYC, who will dispatch a staff person to come to our site and talk with the child to assess the situation. Depending on the circumstances, they may wait with the child until their parents can arrive, they may call the police or they may take the child to the emergency shelter NTYC operates in Sherman.
