Funding Update
In mid-July, we learned that our grant request for $47,300 was denied from Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) for the Children’s Advocacy Center. We are thrilled to report that our efforts to restore this level of funding have already been successful.
We were deeply touched and very encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive response to our appeals for help. One strategy to cope with this funding loss was to seek financial support from our local city and county governments. The Fannin County Commissioners and the City Councils of Trenton, Honey Grove, Savoy, Ector and Leonard each granted our request for $1 per person based on the 2000 Census. The city of Bonham awarded us $3,000, bringing the total pledged to $24,253.
Our appeal to the Office of the Governor regarding the lost grant resulted in the award of $24,833 in discretionary funding. In addition, many of our faithful supporters answered our call for help and made special gifts or increased their sponsorship level at “Justice Is Served.”
With funding levels restored, we were able to lift the temporary hiring freeze and fill the vacant position with the Children’s Advocacy Center. At the end of September we welcomed Laurie Hazelton to our team. She has previous experience with Child Protective Services and Juvenile Probation which will serve her well as our CAC Program Specialist.
